Sum Long Teochew Braised Duck Noodles @ Tiong Bahru

On my previous visit, I had sampled some of my aunt's Teochew Braised Duck Noodles in soup. It was excellent and I had been waiting for an opportunity to return and order a bowl for myself. Unfortunately, the parking situation was almost always so bad that we had to resort to buying take-away portions of duck.

We were lucky to get parking close by and a table at the coffeeshop on one occasion.

Braised Duck Noodles - Dry

Teochew Braised Duck Noodles (Dry) @ S$3

My brother ordered a "dry" portion of duck noodles. It looked delicious except that I'm generally not a huge fan of starchy gravy. That said, the gravy here did not look as starchy as the ones I've had at other places so I guess, I shall have to give the "dry" version a try the next time I visit. If you're new to the term "dry" noodles, in local lingo it refers to noodles served without soup but tossed in seasonings like soy sauce, chili sauce etc.

I'd ordered the "soup" version as I like the slightly gamey and spicy (not of the chili-hot variety) flavour of the broth. Its thickened occasionally by adding the duck gravy (yep, saw them adding dollops of gravy). Nonetheless, this was a lighter alternative (starch-wise) in comparison with that of the "dry" version. Though the thin slices of duck look dry in the picture, biting into them, one is amazed at the tenderness of the flesh. The flesh had been infused with the flavour of the spices used to season the duck.

I felt that the best way to enjoy the duck was to dip it into the tangy and spicy chili sauce. This is definitely a MUST-TRY!

$3, OMG! How's the housing situation in Singapore, because I think I need to move there ASAP!

Ha ha ha! You're hilarious! The housing situation in Singapore is pretty expensive for a small apartment (by local standards). If you can negotiate for a good package, have a strong stomach for "interesting" dining environments, you would have a great time trying out different stuff here!

request for the garlic vinger sauce. it goes very well with the duck meat.

If u miss the olden days duck noodle taste, this is the one. It is related to the famous duck noodles selling in Neil Road along the roadside or known as Spottiswood Park in the 70 & 80.

Hi! Thanks for the tip! Its such a coincidence because I happened to have a late breakfast there on Saturday and the uncle happened to give me the garlic vinegar sauce. :)

I never had the chance to try the duck noodles at Neil Rd, they're relatives? BTW, I thought Spottiswoode Park is closer to Buona Vista?

Ya according to uncle they're relatives. BTW it is not Spottiswoode Park but some people call it Spottiswoode Park Apts at Spottiswoode Park Road. Some call it near Dragon Mansion or Neil Road too.

Wow! Cool! I have never had the Spottiswoode Park Apts/Dragon Mansion duck noodles. Does Dragon Mansion still exist? It sounds interesting, is it an old buidling?

I not sure whether Dragon Mansion still exit but it was listed in Singapore Public Transport Guide 2006/2007 at page/map 18.

Is Dragon Mansion a modern-ish condo? I like checking out old school stuff.

Dragon Mansion was there when uncle's relative was selling duck noodle at Neil Rd in the 70'. My sis said that it was the olden type of condo. Not sure whether they still remain the same or EnBlock. Maybe u would like to go there & take a look. BTW if u r there please take some picture & share with us. Tks:)

@ anonymous: Hmm, I think I'll pass on checking out that condo. Chances are, the security guard will refuse me entry.

@ sub-urbanrambler: Hee hee! I'm glad I made you hungry! :P
